Games, gathering spaces, privacy booths, and relaxation zones to support all the in-between moments in a day.

The beating heart of culture in Salt Lake City, abuzz with unprecedented growth and industry, the Sugarhouse neighborhood lends an unrivaled energy to any workplace found there. The initial form of this project site, located in the center of Sugarhouse, was a shell space, brimming with the vibrant essence of the neighborhood but lacking a clear purpose. Comprising a kitchenette, a variety of seating, phone booths, a media center, and a pool table, each piece of this amenity space interacts to create a laid-back, highly functional collaborative center.

Meticulously crafted millwork encases the kitchenette, which solidifies its presence through the use of custom lighting strips, delicately diffusing a warm glow throughout the area. The fully-equipped space packs a big punch, effortlessly catering to the nourishment needs of an entire workplace while maintaining a minimal footprint.

Visually, it exudes a sleek and understated elegance, boasting cool white surfaces accentuated by earthy wood details and silver appliances.

Through the center of the room, a variety of seating options create endless opportunity. Designed to accommodate groups of various sizes and cater to diverse needs, the seating arrangements embrace all users, fostering a welcoming atmosphere for employees seeking respite from their desks.

We started with nods to the visual language of the building, like the cool blue tones present throughout the existing offices, and used material and texture to elevate what was already there into an even more poignant space. We ventured into the use of curtains to address a sense of privacy that we were looking to give the space, but the final outcome, enshrouded in a delicate layer of soft blue texture and filtered light, lent even more ambiance to the space than expected. The combination of the evocative fabric and the solid, grounding concrete flooring is a powerful textural pairing, giving the space a beautifully tactile feel.
