A clean, contemporary new look for the lobby space and elevators of a well-loved office building.

The lobby upgrade in the Sorenson XII Building was an opportunity to breathe new life into a dated space. A diverse mix of tenants ensured the building was always active, but the shared entry space was dark and in need of a complete redesign to make it inviting and stylish. Our vision was to create a contemporary environment that would impress visitors and provide a pleasant experience for tenants and employees alike.

The space itself was quite unique, with an enclosed entryway that opened up into an interior courtyard-like area connecting the main floor to the levels above. This layout presented an interesting design challenge, but we were able to create a cohesive flow by carefully planning the furniture placement and sightlines.

The biggest impacts in our updates hinged on the lighting. We replaced the old fluorescent fixtures with sleek slatted ceilings that cast a warm glow throughout the lobby. Complementing this, we installed large, distinctive chandeliers as centerpieces, their soft illumination drawing the eye upwards through the central plaza and accentuating the high ceilings and sense of spaciousness.

We selected a range of furniture pairings, from plush sofas to stylish accent chairs, arranged in several cozy conversational groupings. Splitting the furniture up into separate seating areas not only provided inviting spaces for casual meetings or a moment of respite but also helped define the various zones within the open lobby.

Throughout the process, we paid close attention to every detail, looking for each opportunity to bring a 21st century feel to the lobby, from the sleek glass doors at the entrance to the abstract artwork adorning the walls. The end result was a fresh and comfortable lobby that’s representative of the forward-thinking companies that call the Sorenson XII building home.
